GMEC Modules

Updated 2/3/2022

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PGY1s:

Dear Residents and Fellows who are New to UCSD 2021-22:

UC San Diego Health has contracted with the AMA to provide a series of online modules called the “GME Competency Education Program (GCEP).”  Completion of these modules meets ACGME requirements for education and training in a number of core competency areas. As such, completing the following 6 GCEP modules is MANDATORY for all residents and fellows in ACGME accredited programs.   You’ll receive a welcome email from the AMA tomorrow December 22nd with instructions (see below for details) about how to activate your AMA profile.

Residents in core (first board) training programs will be required to complete these same training modules during each year of their training.

We have created a curriculum called “UC San Diego 2021-22” with the following 6 courses:

1. Managing Unconscious Bias (13 mins)

2. Cultural Competency (15 mins)

3. Creating an Effective and Respectful Learning Environment (20 mins)

4. Residents as Teachers (12 mins)

5. Resident Intimidation (14 mins)

6. Sleep Deprivation: Your life and your Work (14 mins)

The total time required is 88 minutes – and the material is relevant and well presented.  These assignments will be posted after January 1st and must be completed by February 28 (i.e. within the next 2 months).

After viewing the video, a short assessment is to be completed. When you receive 80% or higher on the assessment,  your program coordinator will receive an update to their dashboard, indicating that you’ve completed that assignment.

As a result of UCSD’s paying for access to these modules, you will automatically become an AMA member at no charge. Though please note that you can opt out of this membership for any reason and still have full access to the GCEP modules.

Please activate your AMA profile using the following credentials:

A welcome email with login instructions will be sent on Wednesday December 22. Please use the login instructions provided in the welcome email to access the GME Competency Education Program. For assistance logging in, contact AMA Member Relations at (800) 262-3211 or email GCEPHelp@ama-assn.org.

Once you have activated your AMA account you can login to the modules at https://curriculum.ama-assn.org

If you haven’t received an email from the AMA by December 31, please reach out to your program administrator or contact Brian Steele bwsteele@health.ucsd.edu at the GME office directly.

Thanks for all that you do and wishing you a nice (and safe) holiday season!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PGY2/3s:

Dear Residents and Fellows who are Continuing at UCSD 2021-22 (i.e. not in your first year @ UCSD):

UC San Diego Health has contracted with the AMA to provide a series of online modules called the “GME Competency Education Program (GCEP).”  Completion of these modules meets ACGME requirements for education and training in a number of core competency areas.  As such, completing the following 2 GCEP modules and 1 Zoom video is MANDATORY for all returning residents and fellows in ACGME accredited programs.

You can login to your AMA account and complete the modules at https://curriculum.ama-assn.org

We have created a curriculum called “UC San Diego 2021-22 Returning” with the following 2 courses.  These have not been assigned to you previously.

1. Patient Safety (14 mins)

2. Basics of Health Equity (15 mins)

After viewing the video, a short assessment is to be completed. When you receive 80% or higher on the assessment,  your program administrator will receive an update to their dashboard, indicating that you’ve completed that assignment.

In addition, we are asking you to view a pre-recorded Zoom presentation on Sleep Deprivation given by Dr. Bob Owens.  Dr. Owens is a faculty member in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, an expert on sleep issues and an excellent speaker. It’s a talk that he gave to the Family Medicine residents earlier this year.  The content is very relevant to trainees and much more informative than the module which you’ve viewed in the past.  It’s longer (50 mins, 10min Q&A), but I think well worth in terms of content covered.  Here’s the link:

Please complete the 3 items by Tuesday March 1, 2022

As a result of UCSD’s paying for access to these modules, you will automatically become an AMA member at no charge. Though please note that you can opt out of this membership for any reason and still have full access to the GCEP modules.

For assistance logging in, contact AMA Member Relations at (800) 262-3211 or email GCEPHelp@ama-assn.org.

Thanks for all that you do!
