UCSD GME Updates regarding COVID

UPDATE – Wednesday, 4/8/20

N95 mask reuse:

We have the technology to reprocess our N95s for two passes (total of three uses).  Bins to hold your used N95s can be found in key areas (white bins with a Black STERRIS wording on the bins).  Protocol for reprocessing of N95s can be found here for UCSD:  UCSD N95 reprocess

For Rady’s N95 reprocessing (Rady’s N95 reprocess) you will need to log onto Rady’s intranet to access the PDF.  The procedure is slightly different than UCSD.

Updated Testing Guidelines

UCSD has increased its availability of tests for Coronavirus found here ( testing guidelines) and are able to test all inpatients admissions to UCSD along with patients in the following categories:

Rady Children’s hospital will also be able to test each admission as well as children having outpatient surgeries.

Optional Housing

As we continue to look for options for longterm housing, below are FAQs about lodging for the HCW, and an updated lodging request form.  Options for long term stays are being requested for our front line house officers at La Jolla Family house.  Stayed tuned for more information as the university finalizes this just-built facility.

Well Being:

We are pleased to provide you a summary (attached PDF) of options available for housestaff based on feedback we have received for all of our House staff and other HCW.

Priority Access for Healthcare Workers and First Responders

Costco is temporarily allowing priority access to their warehouses for Costco members who are healthcare workers and first responders such as police officers, EMTs and firefighters. Healthcare workers and first responders who present a Costco membership card and official identification of their role, will be allowed to move to the front of any line to enter the warehouse.
